Bathtub Volume Marks

Bathtub Volume Marks
Baths are great but use a ton of water. Worse still, I usually overestimate the amount of water I need and when I get in, a bunch of water is wasted down the emergency spillway. It would be great if bathtubs came with volume marks so you could know how full to fill them.
So I measured out and marked fill lines in my bathtub.

How to calibrate your tub with fill lines:
  • Get a 5-gallon bucket and filled up the bathtub with water 5-gallons at a time.
  • Each time that another bucket of water was added, marked the water level by scratching the fiberglass surface with an awl and going over it with a permanent marker.
  • Take a bath and take note of how full the water is when you are in the tub and the water is at your ideal level.
  • Get out of the bath and take note of how low the water level drops to with you not in the tub.
This is your ideal fill line. For future baths this is level at which you can fill up the tub for a perfect bath every time. You will never have to waste water filling up a bath ever again.
